Tinubu and rhythm of restructuring | adekkatv

Image
By abiodun KOMOLAFE President Bola Tinubu’s recent announcement to unbundle the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Kaduna State, into six geo-political zones is an important landmark in Nigeria’s journey towards true federalism and regionalism, which lies not in the constitutional or institutional structure, but in the society itself. This move will go a long way in addressing the historical imbalance in the distribution of national institutions as well as fostering a sense of belonging and inclusivity among Nigeria’s diverse populations. Ultimately, this development is a step towards addressing Nigeria’s deep-seated structural issues, which have been perpetuated by a centralized system. One can only pray that the president would also muster sufficient courage to extend this hand of fellowship to institutions like the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Police University and Nigerian Army University as this will not only promote regional balance, equity and fairness but...

Lessons from Ghana | adekkatv

Image
By abiodun KOMOLAFE   Nigeria’s self-proclaimed status as the ‘Giant of Africa’ is being questioned once again, and a recent example from Ghana highlights this reality. The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana conceded defeat even before the polls closed, showcasing a level of democratic maturity. This incident serves as a reminder that Nigeria’s claim to being a giant may not be entirely justified, considering factors beyond mere size or population. To begin with, a lot of what happened in Ghana was a stark and painful reminder that Nigeria is not a competitive political economy. The sooner we face this reality, the better! Ghana’s ruling party, the NPP, was ready to concede defeat, even before the polls closed, because its own exit polls had shown that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was already having a massive, irreversible lead in the voting. The key issue is that you must have a competitive economy to even measure the temperature of exit polls. A...

By abiodun KOMOLAFE The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, should consider himself lucky because not all persons are blessed with opportunities to become game-changers. o, Happy Birthday to the man on whose shoulders so much is riding.
