Media, democracy and the public interest | adekkatv

Image
By Abiodun KOMOLAFE There has been another addition to President Bola Tinubu’s media team. The president has also restructured his media team in a bid to “enhance efficiency within the government’s communication machinery.” Thanks be to God! Well, we are not here to look into the costs and benefits of this new addition at a time when Nigerians are clamouring for a review of the cost of the machinery of the government and the implementation of the Oronsaye Report on the cost of governance. Our focus is on the strategic relationship between government and citizens, as explored in ‘Media, democracy and the public interest’. Politics, as Italian philosopher Antonio Gramsci noted, involves shifting the territory of discourse to advance one’s project. Therefore, it is our considered opinion that, in a very difficult economic dysfunction, Ti...

Oyo State Ad-hoc Staff yet to get payment after 7 months of service | adekkatv

It resonated through out the length and breath of Nigeria as a well conducted Election as it followed the laid down rules and regulations in the procedures of the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 and it's amendments by the NASS unlike the Local Government Elections being done in some other States in recent times because of the Autonomy of Local Government Funding by the Federal Government. The Chairman of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, Aare, Isiaka Abiola Olagunju (SAN) and his Commissioners who worked tiredlessly to ensure that the Election followed the Laws of the Nigeria Constitution with a good service delivery. However, it is very unfortunate that many of the ad hoc staff that participated in the conduct of the Election were yet to be paid their STIPEND after several months.  The Chairmen and Councillors elected during the ele...

Photo Credit: Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Tel - Aviv, Israel By Bolarinwa Kabir  Nigeria, my country, your country, our country. It is no more news that the inflation in Nigeria is bitting harder, masses are now at the receiving end, there is no more middle class, it is either you are rich or poor, the poverty in the country is getting higher as the rich are becoming poor, poor becoming poorer. The Government should try as much as possible to curb this situation, most of the current challenges is as a result of government policies, devaluation of Naira and subsidy removal on petrol. The Government should try as much as possible to open land border for easy flowing of products from neighboring countries to bring about crashes in price of consumables, health care should be well taken care of, there is need to have good and accessible health care for the masses at subsidize rate, majority of people with Nigeria health Insurance Authority (NHIA) still use their money to...
