3rd South -West Summit Of Young Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum, Gov Aiyedatiwa Receives Grand Patron Award | adekkatv

The Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Gov (Dr) Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has received a Grand Patron Award of the Young Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum (YMLSF) for South West Nigeria, yesterday in Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado Ekiti.


The Executive Governor was represented by his immediate past Special Adviser on Health Prof Michael Simidele Odimayo at the event. The Governor was invited as a Special Guest of Honour and an Award Recipient at the regional summit.


The summit, which gathered young Medical Laboratory laboratory scientists across the six states of the South West Nigeria, themed "Medical Laboratory Science in the Era of Globalization: Optimization and Adaptation" was well attended.


In his welcome address, the Southwest Coordinator, MLS Adeola Oyekan who is also the National Vice President of the forum expressed his joy for the honour Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa gave them to have been represented by an erudite professor of medicine, Prof. Michael Simidele Odimayo. 


Oyekan said, the gathering was aimed at acknowledging the significant role that the Medical Laboratory Science plays in the healthcare ecosystem, particularly in this era of globalization. The rapid advancements in technology, the increasing complexity  of global health challenges and the need for innovative solutions which demand that medical laboratory scientists, adapt, optimize and evolve.


The National Secretary of Young Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum (YMLSF), MLS Bolarinwa Kabir Adekunle congratulates South West Region on this great achievement which is the third summit for the region surpassing all other regions of the federation.


MLS Bolarinwa Kabir Adekunle further stated that, other regions should emulate this great achievement, appreciate Local Oganising Committee led by Paul Olorunsola, the State Branch Executive of Ekiti State, the Regional planning committee led by MLS Alao Morufah who has done a great work to make the summit a success.


According to Prof. Abidemi Muhibi, a Professor of Medical Laboratory Science, Edo State University who delivered the keynote lecture, said the young laboratory scientists should promote the good ethics of their profession. And that they should not give in to any act of deliberate temptations in the course of discharging their services. 


The keynote speaker advised the government to prioritize incentives for medical professionals and improve on hospital facilities in order to curb the excessive brain drain in Nigeria.


However, Prof. Michael Simidele Odimayo who represented His Excellency Gov (Dr) Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa at the event said, " I brought greetings from His Excellency Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Executive Governor of Ondo State". He congratulated the forum for the initiative. He intimated the gathering with the various laudable health care policies, projects and innovations of the Ondo State government under the leadership of His Excellency Gov Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.


Prof Odimayo went further to describe the restructuring and various innovative upgrades of Teaching Hospital in Ondo State, better Health care services, prompt salary payment to all staff, the Abiyamo scheme, which is an advanced form of "Mother & Child" program in Ondo State; effective and efficient Contributory Health insurance services of Ondo State Contributory Health Commission (ODCHC), among others as laudable. According to him, the giant strides Ondo state is making in the health sector is as a result of the concerted effort by His Excellency Gov Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa; as being confirmed  by the Young Medical Laboratory Scientists, which prompted them to make the people's Governor their Grand Patron.


 He went further to encourage the young laboratory scientists to put in their best for the health of our nation.


"Nigeria is our nation, we need to put in our best for the effective and efficient health-care system." He also advocated for a peaceful coexistence among all healthcare workers and charged all the young laboratory scientists to collaborate with other healthcare professionals to increase productivity and even venture into the production of laboratory reagents and equipment which will better the country's economy and stabilise healthcare provisions across the country.


After decorating Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa with the award, Prof Michael Simidele Odimayo on behalf of the Governor appreciated the body of the young scientists and conveyed Mr Governor's words of continued support for the forum at all times.
