UNIZIK lecturer killed as gunmen escape with car | adekkatv

Dr. Osita Chinedu, a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the Aroma area of Awka, the state capital, this happened on Monday night.
As reported by Eyewitnesses, the assailants flagged down the lecturer’s car and demanded his keys before opening fire.
One witness, who shared the incident on social media, warned, “Someone was shot dead this evening. They say he was a lecturer from UNIZIK. Please, comrades, stay safe during this yuletide. If someone demands your car, surrender it; our lives are more important.”
A colleague of the deceased, speaking under anonymity, lamented the growing insecurity in the state. “It’s heartbreaking to lose a fellow lecturer and sports enthusiast. This level of insecurity is alarming. We and our children are no longer safe, not even in the state capital,” the lecturer stated.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident and launched an investigation. Police spokesman, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, identified the victim as Fabian Osita, an employee of UNIZIK.
“Information available to the command indicates that the victim was shot by unknown gunmen on December 16, 2024, at 10:10 pm at Aroma Junction. The suspects fled the scene in the victim’s ash-colored 2006 Toyota Corolla with an Enugu registration plate,” Tochukwu stated.
He urged anyone with information on the incident or the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle to report to the nearest police station or contact the command’s control room via 07039194332 or SP Ikenga Tochukwu at 08039334002.
The command extended its condolences to the victim’s family and pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice
