The Young Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum (YMLSF), Osun State Branch in a press release with adekkatv correspondence in Osogbo, the Osun State Capital, the Branch is engaging with critical stakeholders to make the Forum grow, the Press release goes thus;


In a bold move to strengthen collaborations and advance healthcare delivery, the Osun State Chapter of the Young Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum (YMLSF) embarked on a series of strategic courtesy visits to key stakeholders on Wednesday, 4th December 2024. The delegation visited the Osun State House of Assembly, the Osun State Chapter of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), and Professor Hassan Abdulwasi. The visits were led by the YMLSF National President, MLS Jegede O. Suleiman, accompanied by MLS Adeboye Olamide T. (Hon. Lammy), the National Secretary, MLS Bolarinwa Kabir A., the State Chairman, MLS Ademola Samuel, and the State Publicity Secretary, MLS Timilehin Olumide I.

Warm Reception and Collaborative Discussions  


The delegation was warmly welcomed at each stop, reflecting the long-standing support and collaborative spirit between the YMLSF and its stakeholders. The National President, MLS Jegede O. Suleiman, applauded all the dignitaries visited for their friendly disposition and unwavering support for the association’s initiatives over the years.  


A Unified Front  


Accompanied by a robust team of committed young professionals, the delegation represented the future of medical laboratory science with confidence and purpose. The lineup of national and state YMLSF leaders included:

At the Osun State House of Assembly, the team engaged with notable stakeholders, including Hon. Adeyemi Adewumi Irekandu (Representative for Obokun State Constituency), Hon. Abolarin Kasope Ajibade (Representative for Ifedayo State Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Health), and Mr. Tiamiyu Olamide, among others. Discussions revolved around strengthening healthcare policies, promoting medical laboratory science, and improving access to affordable healthcare services in Osun State.  


Hon. Abolarin Kasope Ajibade praised the YMLSF for its proactive approach and pledged the House Committee’s support for the association’s initiatives, including the impactful Public Health Lecture recently organized by the Osun YMLSF and as well promised a collaborative efforts to ensure YMLSF sponsored bill to scale through in Osun State House of Assembly and with express approval comes early next year. 


Concerns Raised and Strategic Proposals  


At the meeting with the Osun State AMLSN Chairman, Dr. Adebayo Teslim, the proliferation of unregulated medical laboratory science training institutions was identified as a pressing issue. Dr. Teslim emphasized the need for stricter regulation to uphold the profession's standards and ensure high-quality training nationwide.

Additionally, Dr. Teslim acknowledged ongoing challenges facing the national AMLSN body and urged the YMLSF to advocate for unity and collective action to address these issues. He further highlighted the importance of creating an enabling environment for young medical laboratory scientists to thrive.  


Professor Hassan Abdulwasi, a distinguished academic and supporter of the YMLSF, echoed these sentiments. He commended the forum’s achievements and encouraged younger members to pursue postgraduate studies to strengthen the academic presence in the field.  


Gratitude and Future Collaborations  


The YMLSF National President, MLS Jegede O. Suleiman, expressed heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders for their warm reception and enduring support. He emphasized the forum's commitment to fostering collaboration, driving excellence, and ensuring that medical laboratory scientists remain pivotal to disease prevention, diagnosis, and management in Nigeria.  


The delegation proposed actionable steps to address challenges affecting the profession, including:  

- Strengthening regulatory frameworks.  

- Increasing investment in laboratory infrastructure.  

- Conducting public awareness campaigns to highlight the value of medical laboratory science in healthcare.  


Activities Continue


The YMLSF’s activities did not end with these visits. Today 5th December 2024, the leadership team is set to continue their impactful engagements by paying courtesy visits to the esteemed Osun YMLSF Patrons and Patroness, further solidifying the forum's relationship with its distinguished supporters.

The courtesy visits concluded with a shared resolve to transform discussions into actionable solutions that will positively impact the health sector in Osun State and beyond. The YMLSF leadership remains steadfast in its mission to advocate for the profession and contribute significantly to public health advancement.
